AWARD WINNING FILMAKERS EXPLORE THE TWISTED MIND OF SCAM ARTIST WHO DIRECTED "HYSTERICALLY AWFUL" MONSTER MOVIE

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO., JANUARY 2, 2011:

In an industry that prides itself on creativity, three award-winning Colorado filmmakers are attempting a cinematic multi-layer cake by creating "a film within a documentary about a movie." The docudrama will offer a delicious retro on the 1964 sci-fi cult classic, THE CREEPING TERROR. The team stirs in a pinch of irony as they explain how the real monster was behind the camera. It's a recipe that has film experts like Michael Medved, Harry Knowles, and Harry Medved licking their chops. Response to the film's teaser are now in: it's a hilarious hit!

"The story must be told," says Harry Medved, co-author of FIFTY WORST FILMS OF ALL TIME. "CREEP! Promises to be a fascinating journey into the twisted mind behind what many believe is the worst movie ever made."

When director A.J. Nelson spawned the 1964 sci-fi thriller THE CREEPING TERROR, he spawned a filmic flop so bad that his audience could never take it seriously. Yet when "con man" A.J. Nelson set out to scam his cast and crew into believing it was a ticket to cinematic fame, his performance was worthy of an Academy Award. It is precisely that dichotomy that independent film director Pete Schuermann, producer Nancy Theken, and editor Dave Wruck set out to explore in this film about the making of THE CREEPING TERROR and its director, A.J. Nelson. Taking cues from the original, they titled this documentary about Nelson's foray into cinematic malpractice simply CREEP!

"A.J. Nelson was a chameleon of cosmic proportions—in many ways the true monster behind the original film," said Schuermann. "So what at first blush is just science fiction produced so badly it's actually entertaining, later unfolds as a complex, real life drama about raw ambition, blind trust, and consummate manipulation. That's what I wanted to explore—to connect the dots between a horrible movie and its psychotic maker."
